Friday The 13th Tops Weekend Box Office

The revival of the venerable slasher franchise easily took the No. 1 spot at the North American box office this weekend, setting a new record for a horror opening with estimated sales of $42.2 million, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures reported.

The new film is essentially a remake of the 1980 film that kicked off the horror series and eventually introduced a hockey-masked villain named Jason. His most recent appearance, in 2003's "Freddy vs. Jason," generated a $36.4 million opening.

Also new this weekend were Walt Disney Co's Isla Fisher comedy "Confessions of a Shopaholic" at No. 4 with a modest $15.4 million, and Columbia Pictures' Clive Owen thriller "The International" at No. 7 with $10 million.

Columbia, a unit of Sony Corp, also had a disappointment last weekend with "The Pink Panther 2" ($22 million to date).

But the studio's surprise hit comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" crashed through the century mark, tallying $110.5 million after an $11.7 million weekend.

Last weekend's champion, Warner Bros.' ensemble romance "He's Just Not That Into You," slipped to No. 2 with $19.6 million, taking its 10-day tally to $55.1 million. The comedy, based on a self-help book that was itself inspired by the TV show "Sex and the City," revolves around the lives and loves of various couples.

Octuplet Mom Seeks Donations On A New Web Site

A new web site has been created for the public to donate money and supplies to the unemployed single mother and her 14 children.
A cheerful Web page with rainbows and hearts thanks supporters and features photos of the octuplets along with their birth weights.

Nadya's six other kids — all under the age of 8 and three of them with special needs — do not appear on the site.

The older children were introduced to America on Tuesday night's Dateline. In an interview with Ann Curry, Nadya said she planned to finish getting her degree so that she can provide for her family and pay off her $50,000 debt.

Nadya also addressed her striking resemblance to Angelina Jolie. "I have never thought of Angelina Jolie except the last time I saw one of her movies. I think that was years ago. It is so far away from the place I'm in right now to think of think of any celebrity."

Salma Hayak Marries Her Daughter's Father

Hayak has married French businessman Francois-Henri Pinault, Monday's online edition of the weekly French newsmagazine Le Point reports.

Hayek, 42, and Pinault, 46, were married on Saturday – St. Valentine's Day – in the City Hall of the Sixth Arrondissement in central Paris, according to the publication, which is owned by the Pinault family.

Sixth Arrondissement Mayor Jean-Pierre Lecoq subsequently confirmed the report to the French news agency Agence France-Presse.

There had been recent reports that the couple – whose daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault, was born in September 2007 – had reunited after they had called off their engagement in July 2008.

Friends of the couple tell PEOPLE that a Paris trip in September (when Hayek attended the Balenciaga fashion show) and another in November helped rekindle the pair's relationship.

Adds a source, they were "very evidently in love with each other, very affectionate in public" together at the Dubai Film Festival in December. Only last week, Hayek, who's been appearing on NBC's 30 Rock, told TV host Rachael Ray that when she kisses Alec Baldwin on the show, "I keep telling Francois, 'I imagine I was kissing you. "

Pinault is CEO of the luxury giant PPR and the son of one of France's richest men, Francois Pinault, whose fortune last year was estimated to be $16.9 billion by Forbes magazine.

Besides his daughter with Hayek, Pinaut also has two children from a previous marriage.

'90210' Star Would 'Love' to Join the 'Twilight' Sequel

Last week AnnaLynne McCord auditioned for the role of Heidi in 'New Moon.' Now, the "90210" star reveals just how close she is to joining the highly anticipated 'Twilight' sequel.

McCord, who plays Naomi Clark on "90210," tells MTV she's in negotiations with 'New Moon' director Chris Weitz and his team. "It's definitely something I would love to do; as most people know, I am obsessed with vampires. I'm a true-blood 'Twilight' fan all the way."

McCord says her busy slate of "90210" shoots presents "some scheduling conflicts, and we're trying to work that out now."

The actress says that if she does join 'New Moon,' she would play Heidi, who in Stephenie Meyers' books is a siren of sorts, who uses her beauty to lure unwitting humans into the clutches of the wicked -- and hungry -- Volturi.

"I love Heidi. She's obviously very sexy. She's the fisherman; she's the bait," McCord says. "It's a fun character to play. But she's also a thousand-year-old vampire, so that's kind of badass."

The ultimate single lady was having dinner at the Waverly Inn on Monday night when her Music and Lyrics co-star, Hugh Grant walked in.

"She squealed and jumped in his arms," a witness tells the paper, adding that the friends then "made out."

Apparently their brief romance wasn't to be, as Drew took off to hang at the Beatrice Inn with steamy hunk Clive Owen. Such a heartbreaker, that one!

Olympic Swimmer Amanda Beard Engaged!

Amanda Beard is saying "I Do!"

The Olympic swimmer says that she is engaged to photographer Sasha Brown.

"We got engaged on Christmas day," Beard tells Us. "It was really simple. We decided to do Christmas by ourselves in our house in Tuscon. He had a little Tiffany's box, and it was hidden in this Santa statue that we had -- his little sack -- and it was perfect."

She admits to Us that a simple proposal was much better than an over-the-top alternative.

"If he tried to do anything extravagant or crazy, he was like, 'You're so snoopy, and in my business, you'd figure it out, so I had to throw it in with Christmas," she says.

The couple, who has been together for more than three years, met at a photo shoot.

"It was a Speedo photo shoot, actually," she said in the W Lounge at NYC's Fashion Week.

Like her engagement, the model also plans to keep the big day simple.

"We're not going to have a wedding, just a small ceremony at the end of April."

Ashton Kutcher: Joaquin Phoenix's Letterman Appearance Was Fishy

After watching Joaquin Phoenix on Wednesday's Late Show With David Letterman, Ashton Kutcher is wondering if the actor is trying to pull a Punk'd-like prank on people.

Phoenix, 34, sported sunglasses and a heavy beard, spoke in monosyllables and chomped on gum as Letterman heckled him about his new look.

Even though Phoenix has denied hoax rumors, Kutcher says it is "too odd" that Phoenix's brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, happens to be "doing a documentary on him," filming all of his weird antics.

"Is he acting?" Kutcher blogs on his Twitter page, adding that Phoenix's behavior feels "a little strange."

Although Phoenix and Letterman were awkward toward each other on camera, Kutcher says he heard they got along great after the segment taped.

"I find it interesting that at the end of the interview, he takes his glasses off and returns to shake Dave's hand again," Kutcher writes.

Phoenix also has Kutcher's wife Demi Moore scratching her head.

"I can't figure out if it was real or a very in-depth character he has committed to," she blogs on her Twitter page. "Whatever is going on is friggin' funny!"

Jessica Simpson Admits Her Pants Have Split

Jessica Simpson's biggest concern about her performance Thursday at NYC's Madison Square Garden?

Her outfit.

"I've had times when my pants split right down the middle when I bent down to reach a note," the singer told fans, laughing. "That's why I'm wearing a skort - not a skirt, not a short - just so they wouldn't split."

Although Simpson has struggled at some shows on her current tour, she seemed to be in good spirits, as she performed a 35-minute set before Rascal Flatts got on stage, New York's Newsday reports.

The paper reports she "confidently rolled out her new single 'Pray Out Loud' and her self-esteem anthem 'Remember That.'"

Simpson made her first live TV appearance since her much-scrutinized weight gain on Wednesday, performing her song "Pray Out Loud" on CBS' The Early Show"

She danced around the weight issue.

"Honestly, I am right where I'm supposed to be. I am so happy," Simpson said. "Everything's really great."
