"We have received many messages of condolence from around the world and we want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It has meant so much to us. It is a beautiful reminder of the inherent goodness in the human spirit that gives us hope for a brighter future."

They signed off: "With love, John, Kelly and Ella."

Travolta's attorney, Mike Ossi, who is with John and Kelly Preston in the Bahamas, says, "Everybody has reached out. It seems like the world has reached out and feels the pain that John and Kelly are going through. Thousands and thousands of phone calls have been received. Oprah has called. You name it, they've called."

The attorney also revealed Tom Hanks and Tom Cruise have reached out to the grieving stars.

"John is in the process of preparing a thank you to all those people, and the world, who have grieved along with him. Barack Obama Moves His Family to Washington

President-elect Barack Obama landed in Washington D.C. today where he joined his wife and two daughters ahead of his inauguration later this month.

"Well guys, I am looking forward to seeing you guys in Washington. I gotta say I choked up a little bit leaving my house today," Obama said while on a plane to D.C.

Michelle Obama flew into the capital a day earlier along with daughters Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, who are scheduled to begin classes Monday at the prestigious Sidwell Friends School, which has become famous for educating the children of U.S. presidents.

"Malia's friend had dropped off an album of the two of them together. They had been friends since preschool and I just looked thru the pages and the house was empty and it was a little tough, it got me," the President-elect said.

The incoming first family's temporary home will be the luxurious Hay-Adams Hotel, which overlooks their permanent home -- The White House -- where the family will move after the January 20 inauguration. The Obamas had been vacationing in Hawaii over the holidays.

Regis and Kelly to Debut Updated Look Monday

Live with Regis and Kelly is getting a makeover for 2009. On Monday, the chatty morning show will debut a crisp new high-definition look and a new theme song.

Stars Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa will also appear in a revamped opening segment that works more New York City scenes into the picture, according to producers. But one element that will not change a bit is the show's Central Park-view backdrop. Producers opted to keep the mesh piece instead of upgrading to a hi-def version to keep a touch of softness.

To remake the show's theme song, Live conducted a contest, and received more than 3,000 submissions from pros and amateurs alike. The winner is Gabriel Saientz, a 35-year-old professional pianist from Argentina, who lives in Miami. In December, Saientz was presented with a $100,000 check for winning.

Producers have kept the new tune under wraps, but Saientz describes it is "a lively, happy theme song that goes with [Regis and Kelly's] personalities."

Anne Hathaway will be a guest on Monday's show where she'll talk about her new movie Bride Wars.

Jennifer Aniston Dog Tale Nabs Another B.O. Win

The dog days of winter are here to stay, apparently.

For the second time, Marley & Me, the Jennifer Aniston-Owen Wilson-Lab love story, finished atop the weekend box office, with a $24.1 million Friday-Sunday gross, per studio estimates compiled today by Exhibitor Relations.

On Saturday, the movie became the 25th release of 2008 to cross the $100 million mark overall, and sometime soon it should become Aniston's highest-grossing Jennifer Aniston movie, not counting Bruce Almighty, which was, after all, a Jim Carrey movie.

Dancing With the Stars' Karina & Maksim Engaged!

Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are looking to perfect their pas de deux.

The Dancing With the Stars pros took the whole ringing in the new year literally, getting engaged just before the calendar flipped to Jan. 1, a source confirms.

Chmerkovskiy sealed the deal with a Harry Winston number.

The betrothal came between DWTS tour dates in Salt Lake City and Tulsa, Okla.—and a little more than six months after Smirnoff, 30, announced she and former Dancing partner Mario Lopez had ended their two-year relationship.

She and fellow Ukraine native Chmerkovskiy, 28, hooked up shortly thereafter.

Chermkovskiy joined DWTS in season two and last season partnered with Misty May-Treanor. Smirnoff has been on since season three, most recently teaming with Rocco DiSpirito.

No word on a wedding date, but both are expected back when season eight kicks off March 9.

Will Smith Top Money-Maker Of 2008

The Hancock and Seven Pounds actor has been voted the top money-making movie star of 2008, knocking Johnny Depp out of the top spot in the Quigley Poll. Jada Pinkett Smith's husband is only the second African-American actor to top the poll in its 76 year history. Sidney Poitier placed first in 1968.

The Quigley Poll is an annual survey of motion theater owners and film buyers, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue for their theaters during the year. Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale, Shia LaBeouf and Harrison Ford rounded out the top five.

In addition to being a bankable actor, Will is also one of Hollywood's most charitable stars. As we reported in the Jan. 5 issue of Star, the Oscar nominated talent recently visited St. Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri and spent time with 12-year-old car accident victim John Bryer and some other patients.

"As a parent, the way he took the time to raise John's spirits — and those of all the children in the room — is something I'll never forget," John's father, Wiley Bryer, told Star. "He's a special guy!"
