According to The Hollywood Reporter, she has signed on to play Joan Jett in a biopic about the rocker's 1970s all-girl band, The Runaways. (Jett will also serve as an executive producer.)
The Runaways -- comprised of guitarists Jett and Lita Ford, drummer Sandy West, singer-keyboardist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox -- were one of the first successful all-girl hard rock bands. Before disbanding over management and money issues, they churned out hits like "Cherry Bomb."
The movie will follow Jett and Currie as teenagers "to their dissolution and disillusionment," according to The Reporter.
Production is set to begin next year, but filming will have to revolve around Stewart's commitments to the two upcoming Twilight sequels.
